About

What is a Maker space?

A makerspace is a collaborative work space where individuals can come together to make, learn, explore, and share. It can be found in schools, libraries, or public/private facilities. Makerspaces provide tools, materials, and resources for hands-on learning and creativity. They allow creators to transform concepts into tangible objects and to apply their skills and knowledge in real-life situations.

Makerspaces are important because they encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and the development of practical skills. They offer opportunities for students to engage in project-based learning and explore various fields such as electronics, robotics, 3D printing, woodworking, and traditional arts and crafts.

What is a third Space?

Definition

A place separate from work and home.

A place to congregate and commune.

“Third places are “anchors” of community life that facilitate and foster broader, more creative interaction.” – Pete Myers (2012). Going Home: Essays, Articles, and Stories in Honour of the Andersons. Lulu.com. p. 37. I

  1. What does it mean to us?

As creatives, we need a place to participate in a community and gain feedback. So often we do not have a place to work and collaborate with other artists.
